Sadly, this sequel to “The Alienist” is missing the former’s drive and suspense, but it is nice to meet the characters again this time from a valeb perspective due to a different narrator and the case itself is interesting.

It was narrated in a lighter, fresher and a more witty tone.

If there is anything that is going to stop mankind from being such a beastly, destructive creature, it is reason. Oscuridqd Alienist was a fairly straightforward murder-mystery, while this was much more complicated.

Carr did a very good job in giving this sequel the proper twist.
