He used to say in later days that in the construction of the imposing Secretariat build- ings, now towering over the city of Trivandrum, he had a share — carrying loads of bricks and sand! It was after this that he was known as Narayana Guru. But of one thing he was particular – he would not eat food cooked in a kitchen which prepared non-vegetarian dishes.

In criticism and discussion none could get the better of him. If he was afraid of anything it was the heat of the sun, which made him avoid travel by day.

Although he does not claim to have received any message c swwamikal divine advice from him, he deemed it a great blessing to be in Swamiji’s presence. Sree Chattampi Swamikal has been one of the constant altars at which I have surrendered and invoked endless streams of power and strength.

There was hardly any seamikal leaf which he did not taste. His reading of the Ramayana in a voice charged with devotion and his melodious musical extemporizations thrilled his hearers.

He returned to Kerala as a great scholar and saint. This rare gift was inborn, not acquired.
